Scandinavian crews lead 5 of the 13 classes

Princess Sofia Trophy - Scandinavian crews lead 5 of the 13 classes
PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN-(16-4-2003) On the third day of competition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofía-Madrid 2012 we can outline the leading position of Spain in the 49er class and of the Scandinavian teams in five classes (470M, Yngling, Star, Europe W and Europe M). Winds were of 20-23 knots with gusts of 25 knots.

Spanish crew Santiago López-Vázquez/Javier de la Plaza, maintain the first place in the 49er class, while the 2002 winners, Iker Martínez/ Xavier Fernández, are second overall. Third place is for Norwegian crew Christoffer Sundby/ Frode Bovim.

The lead in the 470 M overall standings is for Swedish crew Johan Molund/ Martin Andersson followed by Australian team Mathew/Dan Belcher and Alvaro Marinho/Miguel Nunes in thrid place

Danish crew Dorte O. Jensen/Helle Jespersen/ Rachel Kiel continue to lead the Yngling overall standings. USA team Betsy Alison/Lee Icyda/Suzy Leech are now in second place followed by team Shirley Robertson/Sarah Ayton/ Inga Leask from Great Britain.

After today’s races, Swedish team Fredrik Loof/Anders Ekstrom are leaders in the Star class . Second place is for Iain Percy/Steve Mitchell from Great Britain followed by French crew Philippe Presti/Jean Philippe.

Finnish sailor Sari Multala –the 2001 edition absolute winner- is the leader in the Europa W class, followed by Danish sailor Signe Livbjerg and Carolijn Brouwer from Holland.

The leader in the the Europa M class is Oscar Claeson from Sweden, followed by Fredrik Svensson and Spanish sailor Joan Salamé.

In the Laser class, Australia is in first and second place with sailor Michael Blackburn and Tom Slingsby. Third place is for Paul Goodison from Great Britain.

World and European champion,Ben Ainslie, maintains his leadership in the Finn class, followed by Belgian sailot Sebastián Godefroid, winner of the 2002 edition. Mateusz Kusznierewicz from Poland is down to third place.

Mitch Booth/Herbert Dercksen from Holland are still the leaders in the Tornado class. Second place is for Australian crew Darren Bundock/Glen Sabih followed by Fernando Echávarri/Antón Paz Blanco from Spain.

First pace in the 470 Women overall standings is for Greek crew Sofía Bekatorou/ Emilia Soulfa followed by Jenny Armstrong/Belinda Stowell from Australia and Spanish crew Natalia Via-Dufresne/Sandra Azón.

The top positions in the Mistral Women overall standings are still for Lee Lai Shan from Hong Kong and Italian sailor Alessandra Sensini – Gold medallist at the Sydney 2000 Olympics-. Third place is for Faustine Merret from France – the 2002 edition winner -.

French sailor Julien Bontemps maintains the leading position in the Mistral Men class followed by Nick Dempsey from Great Britain and Jon-Paul Tobin from New Zealand.

The Dragon class is still led by British team Poul Richard Hoj-Jensen/ Jeremy Jordan/Claus Hoj-Jensen followed by tema Ulli Llibor/Vincent Hoesch/Bernd Faber from Swtizerland and German crew Marcus Brennecke/Markus Wieser/ Jörg Moessmang.

Today has been the last day of the qualifying series and tomorrow and Friday, classes sailing in groups will sail the Final series.
